The criterion for admission is that the applicant succeeds in the practical exams as well as an interview focused on student´s general knowledge.
The study gradually develops and cultivates students´ ability to express using specific features of photographic image. Photography is the modern visual language. Students will not only be educated in the history of this medium but they will also achieve both technical skills and knowledge art as a science which will enable them to express themselves in images and master visual communication.
The major focus is the creative aspect which is essential for good quality advertising.
In order to reach excellent results it is necessary to get familiar with the development of photography, its physical and chemical principles, manage professional photographic equipment and operate the latest digital and information technologies and software connected with photography.

Educational Principles

The training is based on methodological procedures verified in practice.
The methodology of practical training leads from classical analogue photography and classical processes to the latest types of digital imaging and editing in various types of image processing software.
The management of the field applies effective creative pedagogical procedures based on personal experience as well as years of teaching practice at colleges and universities.

Course Books for Art Photography Students

Photographic Equipment

School studios are equipped with modern photographic and information technologies.
In two spatial studios there are both flash and continual studio illuminating systems, digital measurement hardware, professional photographic gear and further equipment.
Medium and large format cameras of renowned brands, digital Nikon cameras, medium and large format digital rear panels are all at students´ disposal.
Students learn to develop and enlarge their photographs the classical way in spacious dark rooms. Negatives and diapositives can be scanned and processed similarly to digital photographs using modern computers with the latest professional software.
From January 1st 2006 to December 31st 2007 the “Innovation of Photographic Field by Digital Photography and Image Processing” EU grant was fully employed with the financial help of ESF, CR and the Capital City of Prague for modernization and engagement of the latest technologies in the educational process. Partners of the project were SP Production, FotoŠkoda, ČTK a fa Nikon.

Relation To Practice

Art Photography Students

Digital image processing is taught from the very first grade. A great deal of attention is paid to art creation as well as development of individual creative skills. Students and teachers regularly exhibit, participate in various competitions, confront their work with professional and amateur public.
Connecting creative skills with knowledge of advertising helps students succeed in wide range of fields of professional photography, advertising agencies, cultural and scientific institutions, periodical editorship, exhibiting or continual studies at photography focused colleges and universities. Naturally, they also perform as independent photographers and artists.
The school educational framework of Art Photography was based on the general educational programme of Applied Photography and Media 82-41-M/02.

Prague for Haiti

This unique project was created by Michael – Secondary School of Advertisement in Prague which would like to contribute to the international humanitarian help for region damaged by disaster.

Proceeds of this charity event will be donated to funds supporting orphaned children in Haiti.

This spontaneous project of Michael Art School in Prague was created in response to reaction of our students, who would like to help in some humanitarian way, after the earthquake.

In the aftermath of the apocalyptic events on the Island students of the Art Photography voiced the wish not to be only bystanders watching this human tragedy, but to be of help.
They took cameras to the streets of Prague and worked in freezing weather to produce photographs for a charity show in Miami.

This location was chosen for its proximity to the Island. Miami is known in Europe as a multicultural city with numerous Haitian community. Not to exclude a great number of Americans with European origins.

Our students took photographs depicting the Old World, well renown Judeo-Christian cultural centre. The Prague Old Town, Jewish Ghetto, Prague Castle, Charles Bridge and the King's Way. But they didn't hesitate to take pictures of the modern features! The Cubist architecture, Frank Gery's Dancing House, memorable statues, romantic corners, snow covered streets and snap-shots of locals.

Visitor to this charity show will see the works of exceptionally talented artists, capturing an old theme in new unexpected manner.

Michael Art School donates all the proceeds from sales to reputable humanitarian organization operating in Haiti.
